To say that I have been busy in the past month would be an understatement. I have booked readings, signings, tabling events to promote my book. I’ve met people and started a civil rights course hosted by the University of South Carolina Modjeska Simkins School to better inform my writing. And all the while, the world continues to turn.
Does dismantling the Department of Education really sound like a good idea? If you really think about it, there have to be ulterior motives. Historically (think pre-Civil War and Antebellum) limiting access to education was used to prevent the masses from finding ways to break free from either enslavement or class systems. Controlling the little information that people received allowed for propaganda to seep into the public conscious (fake news). When we have limited access to education, we don’t develop the tools to think critically. We just accept information that is handed to us because we have no other information to go by.
I’m very much dealing with a lot of anxiety and stress from not being able to really do anything besides write and research. I am thankful for all of the connections I have made. I want very badly to inform those who want to be informed. I am seeing that there are many people who want to know information that they do not have easy access to. That is unfortunate because we could be a society full of scholars and academics.

I greatly believe that everyone has a story. Worth noting. Worth writing. Worth enshrining. We all have experiences that others can learn from we just have to have the courage to speak and open up about them. But even more than that, education and learning are the roots of liberation. They give you tools to break the chains of whatever is holding you back. I’m also continuing to learn and read. It’s important to me.
I am currently immersed in the book entitled For Brown Girls with Sharp Edges and Tender Hearts A Love Letter to Women of Color by Prisca Dorcas Mojica Rodríguez.
