The Beautiful Privilege of Voting

I’ve been seeing a lot of talk of not knowing if the person is going to vote. It all goes back to this overarching idea that making a simple decision like going out and casting a vote for an election has everything to do with our personal tastes and assuming that anyone else is supposed to care.

Before we go on, I’d like to make it clear that although I do dabble in political commentary, these are my personal convictions and I generally do keep them caged. But the idea of casting an electoral vote is very much a privilege.

There are so many countries where people are not afforded this opportunity. In fact, in this country voting rights are revoked from several sects of the population. People with felonies are not allowed to vote even if they are citizens of this country because of whatever infection they committed. It’s part of their punishment.

To hear people talk as if political candidates don’t deserve some respect or at least consideration it’s very troublesome to me. This happens most often when people are referencing things that they have a no vested interest in.

(I literally lost a friend because of a disagreement concerning this. But I am alive and continue on. My opinions are my opinions. My convictions are mine. I like to keep them generally in a confined space. My Blog)

I made a plan. I went out and voted early on Friday. I participated in my civic duty as an American and respected others as I did this.

Let us remember that we have power when we show up in numbers. Exercising something as simple as a privilege that is it forwarded to everyone is part of our duty as citizens of a country. This is also part of being respectful and remembering the people that came before us to have that privilege.

Remember the 19th amendment was only passed in 1920. That's a little more than 100 years where women have had the same privileges extended to men offered to them.

Personally I think I'm gonna celebrate that by exercising that right to vote.
